Message from Prof. Hideo Kosaka

小坂教授

I became a professor at Yokohama National University in 2014 and established Kosaka Laboratory as a research laboratory for quantum information. Our laboratory focuses on developing diamond quantum repeaters, diamond quantum interfaces, and fault-tolerant quantum computers with quantum error correction. These developments will be significant for establishing the future quantum internet.

It was around 2000 that I started specializing in quantum information. I worked on semiconductor quantum bits, but the coherence time to maintain quantum states was extremely short. One day, I came across diamonds and was intrigued that the spin state is very stable and can keep constantly spinning. Ever since, I have dedicated my research to diamonds.

Now at Kosaka Laboratory, I can share this knowledge with my students and guide them with their research, as quantum information can offer them various career options. I am happy to have a talented team behind me, which allows us to keep tackling new research challenges and bring innovation to future society.

We are currently working on developing quantum interfaces and quantum repeaters to build quantum computers and contribute to a global quantum cryptographic network. These goals are defined in two of our national projects, QuINT, part of Goal 6 of the Moonshot R&D Program, and QuREP, assigned to us by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications. The implementation of these projects is managed by the Quantum Information Research Center (QIC) of Yokohama National University, where I am the Center Director. QIC has created an excellent environment for joint-research projects and provides Kosaka Laboratory with many opportunities to connect with world-class researchers on a national and international level.

If you are just as excited as us to bring on a quantum innovation, consider joining our lab or reach out to us to collaborate.
