The Frontier Development Program is a national initiative that promotes research and commercialization in emerging fields with the potential to create new industries beyond 2040.
Our project aims to develop diamond photonic crystal quantum sensors capable of highly sensitive, high-resolution measurements of electrical current, magnetic fields, temperature, and other physical quantities, as well as high-throughput quantum imaging.
By advancing Diamond-on-Insulator (DOI) technology for the stable and cost-effective production of quantum-grade diamond, together with photonic integration, chiplet technologies, and precision measurement techniques, the research seeks to establish key technologies for future industrial applications.
In addition to applications such as non-destructive semiconductor inspection, the project also aims to establish a quantum technology platform that can contribute to future advances in quantum computing and quantum communication, building on QIC’s expertise in quantum repeater research.

It fosters international collaboration in strategically important scientific fields by connecting top researchers from Japan to researchers in advanced STI countries and regions. The program seeks to accelerate the international circulation of talent within Japan’s research community.
In the Japan-Germany joint research field of quantum technologies the project “Diamond spin qubits for quantum applications (DIAMONDQTECH)” has been selected. Professor Kosaka will participate as a Co-PI (Principal Co-Investigator) for the research theme “Quantum Communication.”
